Comment flagging

To fulfill our obligation as mandatory reporters, at the end of each semester, the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) runs a text scan on student comments, using keywords to flag for reportable misconduct, including:

  • threats to individual or campus security

  • abusive comments/personal attacks having nothing to do with instructor’s teaching

  • attacks directed at protected class members (by faculty, staff or students)

When comments meet any of the above criteria, the student’s responses (both comments and numeric responses) will be removed from the FCQ results and reported to the appropriate office for further action.

We have added language to the student emails which instructs them where to report violations for their specific campus. We felt it was important to point this out, in case a student mistakes the FCQ for an official reporting channel. While we will act on violation reports, it will not be as effective as contacting the appropriate office.

Here is the language that appears in the student emails for each campus:

Please note that any allegations of sexual misconduct or protected class discrimination or harassment will be reported to the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (“OIEC”) though OIEC’s response may be limited due to the anonymous nature of the FCQ process. If you need access to confidential support services, please contact Office of Victim Assistance at 303-492-8855.  To make a report to the OIEC, please call 303-492-5359 or email cureport@colorado.edu.
